Coronavirus Postpones An Election

Well, it’s finally happened.  The COVID-19 pandemic has finally postponed an election…a municipal organization election…in Hudson County.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, who serves as the chairman of the Peninsula City’s Democratic Organization, announced on Monday that the 2020 election for the city’s committee representatives will not happen.  Instead, the terms of the BCDO committee people are being extended for another year until June, 2021.

Mayor Davis says the decision is a direct result of the Governor’s edict to limit large gatherings in the wake of the coronavirus crisis sweeping our nation.  An Executive Order signed by Governor Murphy made the postponement of certain election procedures possible.

The Mayor adds that his Administration is doing everything in its power to ensure the safety of Bayonne residents and take the proper measures to help stem the spread of COVID-19.
