Secaucus, NJ – The Secaucus Police Department has reported several arrests in recent days for a variety of offenses, ranging from shoplifting to driving while intoxicated.

On March 11, 2024, at 6:09 PM, Secaucus Police responded to Walmart located at 400 Park Plaza Drive for a report of shoplifting. During the investigation, the suspect fled the area in a motor vehicle, which was later located in the parking deck of 485 Harmon Meadow Boulevard. Melissa Reith, a 36-year-old female from North Bergen, NJ, was taken into custody for shoplifting and eluding.

The following day, on March 12, at 4:15 PM, Secaucus Police responded to 2nd Avenue regarding an individual with an outstanding warrant staying at a residence. The suspect attempted to elude police but was apprehended on the Audi property located at 425 Route 3 East. Joseph Tormey, a 19-year-old male from Union City, NJ, was arrested for the outstanding warrant, as well as for resisting arrest, obstructing the administration of law, and theft regarding a separate incident involving the unlawful deposit of a check into his own bank account.

On March 13, at 7:07 PM, during a motor vehicle stop, Secaucus Police arrested Alexander Santos, a 23-year-old male from Union City, NJ, for an outstanding warrant issued out of North Bergen, NJ.

Further investigations led to additional arrests. On March 14, at 6:48 PM, in relation to multiple burglaries into motor vehicles at the Extended Stay America parking lot on 11/28/2023, Secaucus Police arrested 18-year-old Malahki Isaac of Newark, NJ, for burglary, theft, and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Also on March 14, at 6:48 PM, in connection with a theft incident at Marshall’s on 02/02/2024, Janett Verastegui, a 44-year-old female from Brentwood, NY, was arrested for theft, credit card theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Lastly, on March 17, at 4:12 AM, during a motor vehicle stop, Secaucus Police arrested Segundo Calderon, a 33-year-old male from Wood Ridge, NJ, for driving while intoxicated.

All individuals were issued their respective complaints and warrants. Mr. Tormey and Mr. Isaac were transported to the Hudson County Jail, while the others were released into the custody of responsible adults.

These charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
