Shooting Death of 15-Year Old Jersey City Boy Early Today Under Investigation

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a teenage boy from Jersey City which happened early this morning.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Jersey City Police Department and the Homicide Unit are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy that occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m., Monday, June 5.  Suarez says the Jersey City Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting at 124 Wilkinson Avenue.

Responding officers located an injured male – later identified as 15-year old Tyshawn Smith of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound.  He was pronounced dead at approximately 4:55 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.  Prosecutor Suarez adds that the circumstances regarding this incident are actively being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.
