Death of WNY Woman at Carlstadt Motel Deemed Not Suspicious

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating a death at the Super 8 Motel in Carlstadt that occurred on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in which a West New York woman was found.   On Friday, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the death does not appear suspicious.

At approximately 5:11 a.m. on February 28, the Carlstadt Police Department responded to 395 Washington Avenue after receiving a 911 call stating that an unresponsive female was in one of the motel’s guest rooms.  When police officers entered the room using a master key card, they found 22-year-old, Karol Mejia of West New York deceased.  “An investigation into the cause and circumstances of the death is ongoing, but a preliminary investigation indicates the death does not appear to involve foul play,” stated Prosecutor Musella.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Carlstadt Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Chief Thomas Cox.
