Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest & Aggravated Assault Against a Bayonne Cop Lands Jersey City Man Behind Bars

49-year old Juan R. Delgado of 49 Summit Avenue in Jersey City was taken into custody at 11:54 last night from 537 Avenue A. According to Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato, officers responded to the scene following a report of a dispute.  Upon arrival they encountered Delgado in an apparent intoxicated state.

Amato says, as Delgado approached the officers, he immediately began yelling obscenities which caused numerous residents to emerge from their apartments to investigate the noise. While still behaving tumultuously and ignoring the officers’ commands to cease his behavior, officers ushered Delgado out of the building and advised him that he was being placed under arrest for his disorderly behavior.

When the officers attempted to handcuff him, Delgado tried to head butt an officer as he stiffened his arms in an effort to not be handcuffed.  When police got him to police headquarters, Delgado head butted an officer in the chest and while officers attempted to gain control of Delgado, an officer’s body worn camera fell to the ground. Delgado then proceeded to stomp on the camera, rendering it inoperable.

As a result of his behavior, Delgado has been charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.  He was also charged with criminal mischief.

Captain Amato also reports that a 37-year old male victim informed police, that after observing via cctv cameras, an unknown male unlawfully removing janitorial supplies from the building, he responded to the area. Once he arrived, he encountered the male in the manager’s office where a fight between the two ensued. During the fight, the actor bit the victim’s finger before fleeing the scene. It was later determined that the actor also stole two packages belonging to residents of the building. The victim refused medical attention at the scene.

The robbery reportedly took place last night at 11:34 on the 700 block of Avenue E.  An investigation is continuing.
