At approximately 7:13 on Friday night, the Bayonne Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at an 18-unit apartment building located at 30 East 26th Street. Upon their arrival, firefighters found flames and heavy smoke coming from the second story.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, containing the fire to the apartment of origin.
Three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries; two from smoke inhalation and one with a leg injury. All three were released following treatment.
The Red Cross and the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management are assisting the one tenant who was displaced from their apartment.
Additionally, firefighters were able to rescue a small dog from the fire and reunite it with its grateful owner.
