During Impeachment Trial, Menendez Will Continue to Fight For Other Major Priorities

MENENDEZ CONTINUES TO WORK ON COVID-19 RELIEF, OTHER PRIORITIES DURING IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today joined Senate Democratic leadership to stress how he will continue to advance COVID relief and other legislative priorities as the impeachment trial gets underway.

“For as long as COVID-19 is anywhere, it can spread everywhere, directly threatening the national security, our economy and the health and safety of the American people,” Sen. Menendez said.  “We understand the sense of urgency here.  COVID-19 knows no borders.  The longer we allow the virus to spread, the more it mutates into new strains; and the more it mutates into new strains, the greater the threat to the efficacy of our vaccines and the ability to rebuild our economy and restore our way of life.”

Sen. Menendez said he is continuing to work with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to craft the $10 billion foreign assistance package that will be included as part of the broader American Rescue Plan to address the pandemic.

Under Sen. Menendez’s leadership, the Committee continues to address current and emerging threats to U.S. national security and advance nominees to President Biden’s cabinet.  Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been confirmed and U.N. Ambassador-designate Linda Thomas-Greenfield is awaiting a vote by the full Senate.  The Committee will soon take up the nomination of former Ambassador Samantha Power to lead the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Sen. Menendez continues to work on COVID-19 relief and other legislative priorities as a senior member of both the Finance and Banking Committees.
