On Sunday afternoon, the flag of Portugal was raised at the East Newark Borough Hall.
Mayor Dina M. Grilo was joined by Dr. Pedro Monteiro of the Consulate General of Portugal,
along with fellow Portuguese members of the community. The ceremony was a celebration of the upcoming National day of Portugal on June 10th, as well as an ode to all Portuguese communities out there. With Mayor Grilo's Portuguese roots and East Newark having so many Portuguese residents, the ceremony certainly felt right at home. Members of the community arrived with their own flags, and pride for their country..
