From free groceries to COVID vaccines and basic health screenings–those were just a few of the services available to people who attended East Newark’s West Hudson Community Resource Day on April 23. The event got underway at 10 am at 34 Sherman Avenue, providing West Hudson residents with information about the various programs available to them.
Hosted by East Newark Mayor Dina M. Grilo and the East Newark Borough Council, those who turned out got the chance to meet with members of the fire department and other local agencies. For East Newark police, the day presented an opportunity to recruit crossing guards and collect expired prescriptions, while building community relationships.
Voter registration and passport application information was also available and representatives were on hand from medical and cultural organizations to discuss senior services and upcoming productions in the area.
The April 23rd event was the first of its kind in East Newark, and residents are hoping it won’t be the last. This is Sherry Karabin reporting for for Hudson TV.
