The East Newark Police Department issued the following Facebook post this afternoon pertaining to the use of body worn cameras:

“In accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Body Worn Camera Policy and Directive 2021-5, it will be the policy of the East Newark Police Department, that started on June 1, 2021, to utilize body worn video/audio cameras (BWC).
The East Newark Police Department is excited to announce the official deployment of our new body worn cameras. The cameras will be an additional instrument to help with improving community relationships, officer and citizen accountability, agency transparency, scene documentation and identifying training opportunities. Our officers continue to work hard to prevent and reduce crime while enriching relationships with the community. The body worn cameras will assist in those ongoing efforts.”
