The International Women’s Day celebration in West New York honored the town’s Women of the Year, including a student and three others with businesses integral to the community. Mayor Albio Sires praised the honorees for their contributions to West New York, highlighting their diverse backgrounds and achievements.

The event, held at West New York Middle School, featured a reception followed by an awards ceremony. Legacy recipient Rita Mendez, co-owner of Miami Shoes, expressed her gratitude for the honor, noting her history as an educator and principal in West New York.

Another honoree, Camille Boulla, owner of Petite B Bakery, received the Visionary Award for her work in bringing European-style pastries to the community. Yanet Carpio, co-owner of Yanet’s Family Home Health Care Agency, was recognized with the Community Award for her contributions to home health care services in West New York.

Additionally, Memorial High School’s Valedictorian, Melissa Vergara, received the Rising Star Award for her academic achievements and plans to study biology at Yale University.

Overall, the event was a celebration of the accomplishments of women in West New York and a recognition of their impact on the community.
