During his Monday COVID-19 press briefing, Governor Phil Murphy announced that ten school districts in New Jersey will be able to expand their Pre-K programs early in 2021 thanks to a $10 million grant. Locally, Fairview Schools in Bergen County is the only district to receive the additional funding.
The Governor said New Jersey was able to receive due to a competitive application process. Fairview will be getting a total of $2,126,751. The Governor said Fairview was eligible because it had already received partial, state funding; had a reduced price or free lunch program for 20 percent of its students; or was a district having “pockets of poverty.”
The nine other districts receiving funds were either in central or southern New Jersey, with the exception of North Arlington in Bergen County.
