The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, at approximately 9 p.m. yesterday, the Jersey City Police Department received notification that shots had been fired in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street in the Heights’ section of the city.  When police officers arrived, they found two victims with apparent gunshot wounds.  They were transported to Jersey City Medical Center.   25-year old Freddie Posey of Jersey City was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m.  The second victim, a 30-year-old Jersey City female was treated for an injury that is not considered life threatening.  A third victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City male, self-transported himself to University Hospital in Newark for a non-life threatening injury.

Last night’s incident is actively being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.  As of early Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made.
