It has become a North Bergen Library tradition. A celebration of the township’s diversity which continued this weekend.
It was a wonderful celebration of Indian culture at the North Bergen Library and Rec Center on Saturday. Organized by Library Director Sai Rao, “A Taste of India” continues the library’s tradition of celebrating the cultures of immigrants who have come to North Bergen.
There were traditional Asian Indian dances and music, along with delicious, Indian cuisine. It was an event attended by many members of the North Bergen Indian community, and a personal passion of Library Director Rao, who came to this country from India and has made it a commitment of hers to highlight the township’s cultures and diversity ever since she became Director 32 years ago.
Mayor Nicholas Sacco praised Rao for her commitment to making the library a true, community destination through all of these years. The library offers numerous courses and programs and is always willing to add more at the suggestion of township residents.
North Bergen’s Library generally presents these cultural events twice a year. The community cannot wait to see which culture will be featured next.
