A 24-year old man from Ft. Lee has been charged in connection with a fatal vehicular collision that occurred in North Bergen on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez says that the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit has charged Maximo Rodriguez with one count of Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Death, a crime of the second degree. Suarez says Rodriguez was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Thursday, February 13 and released pending his first court appearance.
A press release from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office states that “Shortly before 6 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, the North Bergen Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Tonnelle Avenue and 91st Street. Responding officers located an unresponsive male, later identified as Nestor Naira-Ojeda, 52, of North Bergen, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee remained at the scene. Members of the North Bergen Police Department conducted the investigation and learned a second vehicle, a box truck, had been involved in the collision and did not remain at the scene. The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit then assumed control of the investigation and identified Rodriguez as the operator of the box truck.”
Prosecutor Suarez has credited the Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Bergen Police Department with the investigation and the arrest. The charge against Rodriguez is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
