Governor Phil Murphy’s Overreach: An Assault on Parental Rights

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey recently doubled down on his flagrant disregard for parental rights in a misguided attempt to champion the rights of transgender youth. His administration has sued three New Jersey school districts over policies that would alert parents to signs of their children exploring changes in gender identity. His justification? The protection of young people. However, his approach is not only misguided but also raises grave concerns about governmental intrusion into family life.

Murphy’s administration, under the guise of “protection,” appears to have lost sight of a crucial fact – parents, not the state, are primarily responsible for their children’s upbringing. This is not merely an opinion but a well-established legal and constitutional right in the United States.

Adolescence is often a turbulent period marked by confusion and significant personal development. During such times, the guidance and support of parents are critical. Murphy’s policy, which seeks to keep parents in the dark when their children may be grappling with their gender identity, creates a dangerous chasm between children and their primary support system.

Despite Governor Murphy’s claims that parents are “always involved,” his actions speak louder than his words. By seeking to obstruct parental knowledge and involvement in such a crucial aspect of their child’s life, he has effectively cast parents as adversaries rather than advocates. This dismisses the essential role parents play and dangerously undercuts the family unit.

The path to supporting transgender and gender-questioning youth should be one of collaboration and openness, not division. Rather than excluding parents, efforts should be directed towards equipping them with the necessary resources to support their children. Our schools should serve as allies to parents in this endeavor, not act as a barrier.

Governor Murphy’s insistence on placing the government between children and their parents is an overreach that must be challenged. In attempting to protect children, his administration has steamrolled over the foundational rights of parents, potentially jeopardizing the very relationships that are central to a child’s wellbeing.

New Jersey’s children, parents, and indeed, the state as a whole deserves better than Governor Murphy’s overreaching and misguided policies.

  1. Phil Murphy is a self righteous out of touch piece of dirt! Parents are responsible, by law, for the welfare of their underage children. Period!

  2. How would like like when your children were small. Would you like a State telling you we are the parents No you’re not Murphy we the parents are the parents and we have Rights. No wonder New Jersey ins want to lead to stay for Texas or Florida you are a terrible terrible governor and I hope you never become president. You’ll be worse than Biden.

  3. This is Marxism which in part stands for the proposition that parents’ love for their children is irrational & therefore the government can provide the needed rational care. Translated, destroy the nuclear family. Follow the money. The same source of money (George Soros) that led our Governor to put a man in the women’s prison causing 2 women to be impregnated. Can’t wait for the NJ law on mandatory sexualization of innocent children to be legally challenged.

  4. Murphy keeps his head planted firmly in his backside, his political beliefs and his righteousness need to get out of Trenton. We need a real man in Trenton to help us get this state back on track Murphy is burying I said a deeper hole every time he does something.
