With all of the construction taking place within the city, an increase in the rodent population has become noticeable.  Officials also theorize that outdoor dining, which has become more popular since the onset of the COVID pandemic, has likely played a role in the growing number of rats.

The bottom line is, rats carry diseases, so the Council is moving to address the situation by hiring exterminators.  The city has also been placing bait in strategic locations across the city to kill the rodents.

A resolution for a $44,000 contract to Paramount Exterminating Services in Union County is on tonight’s agenda.

Hoboken residents can report rat sightings directly to the Hoboken Health Department at (201) 420-2375.  Tonight’s meeting begins at 7 pm.
