The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management has lifted the City’s State of Emergency. Floodwaters in the City’s lowest-lying areas are currently receding as water is continuing to be pumped out.

Hoboken residents and businesses impacted by Tropical Depression Ida should document damages caused by flooding. Residents and businesses should do so before throwing out or discarding flooded items, which will be needed when applying for federal or state relief funding.

Documentation can include receipts, photographs, records, credit card statements, and more.

“As we continue with our recovery efforts, I urge all Hoboken residents and business owners that were impacted by Ida to diligently document any and all flood damage and repairs,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “When funding becomes available at either the state or federal level, it will become a necessary part of the application process, and we want to ensure all residents and businesses are prepared and receive their fair share.”

Flooded items, including furniture, carpets, and objects (each less than 50lbs), can be placed at the curb for garbage collection tonight. Please do not place building materials at the curb because they must be separated from regular garbage. The City will announce the collection schedule soon for flood-damaged building materials such as drywall, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, electrical or mechanical equipment, tile, wood, and insulation.

The City began removing debris from sewer backups at intersections today and will continue tomorrow. Street sweeping, parking meter enforcement, and the Hop shuttle services are scheduled to resume on Tuesday.

As a reminder, discounted parking at Garage B, Garage D, and the Midtown Garage ended tonight at 8 p.m.

Boil water order remains in effect

A boil water order issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and SUEZ remains in effect. The boil water order was issued after the heavy rains caused by Hurricane Ida caused damage to the aqueduct in the Cedar Grove Township, which has since been repaired.

Residents should boil their water before using it for drinking or cooking.

Even if your water is filtered at home, you must boil your water for one minute and allow it to cool for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets or other consumption. Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.

The water tanker previously located outside of City Hall has been relocated to 221 Monroe St. Residents were able to bring containers to fill until 8 p.m. The water tanker will be available again from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow if needed. The City is working with SUEZ to obtain additional water supplies.

SUEZ is currently awaiting test results and coordinating with NJDEP to determine when the boil water order can be lifted. SUEZ will notify customers when the order is lifted.
