Hoboken limited boil-water advisory: Second–12th, Bloomfield to Sinatra after main break

HOBOKEN — Veolia has notified the City of Hoboken that portions of eastern Hoboken are under a boil water advisory required by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the city said Friday.

The advisory follows a 12-inch water main break at Sinatra Drive and Ninth Street caused by a contractor, which dropped water pressure below the recommended threshold, according to the City of Hoboken’s Nixle alert. The main has been isolated and repairs are underway.

Area covered: Residents between 2nd Street and 12th Street from Bloomfield Street to Sinatra Drive — including both sides of those boundary streets and all blocks within — should boil tap water for consumption until further notice.

The city said residents and businesses should bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then let it cool, before using it for drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes, making ice, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, or other consumption — even if home filters are in use. Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.

The advisory remains in effect until further notice. Testing is conducted once the main is repaired and pressure is restored; testing typically takes 24 to 48 hours. Veolia will notify customers when the order can be lifted.

Bottled water will be distributed to impacted residents only from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, or until supplies run out, in the lobby of 1 Marine View Plaza and at the Elks Club, 1005 Washington St.
