Hoboken man Charged with DUI and Intent of Distributing Narcotics After Car Crash

Offense:

  • Possession with the intent to distribute Methamphetamine,
  • Possession with the intent to distribute Xanax,
  • Possession of CDS Methamphetamine within 500 feet of Public housing facility,
  • Possession of CDS Xanax within 500 feet of Public housing facility,
  • Possession of CDS Methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a school/ public park,
  • Possession of CDS Xanax within 1000 feet of a school/ public park,
  • Possession of 50 grams or less of Marijuana including dilutants,
  • 3 counts of Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs,
  • Tampering with evidence, and
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Officers Involved: Officer Cynthia Rivera, Sergeant Cesar Olavarria, Officer Ramon Calderon and Officer Bianca Arroyo.

On Monday, May 25, 2020, at 1:03 PM, Officer Cynthia Rivera responded to the area of 2nd and Monroe Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Officer Rivera found a black Chevy with front end damage parked off to the side on 2nd Street. Officer Rivera approached the driver who was identified as Russell Furino 26 y/o Male from Hoboken, NJ. As Officer Rivera spoke to Furino, she suspected that Furino was impaired. The following officers responded to assist: Sergeant Cesar Olavarria, Officer Ramon Calderon and Officer Bianca Arroyo. Furino was put through a standardized field sobriety test by Officer Calderon. As the investigation continued into the crash, Officer Bianca Arroyo spoke to a resident from the area. He informed Officer Arroyo that he witnessed Furino throw a bag over his neighbor’s fence prior to police arrival. Officer Arroyo retrieved the bag and found illegal narcotics, prescription legend drugs, and drug paraphernalia. At the end of the field sobriety test, Officer Calderon determined that Furino was unable to safely operate a vehicle and therefore was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. It was also discovered through the investigation that Furino struck three parked vehicles. Furino was transported to police headquarters and processed.

Furino was charged with the following :

Possession with the intent to distribute Methamphetamine, Possession with the intent to distribute Xanax, Possession of CDS Methamphetamine within 500 feet of Public housing facility, Possession of CDS Xanax within 500 feet of Public housing facility, Possession of CDS Methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a school/ public park, Possession of CDS Xanax within 1000 feet of a school/ public park, Possession of 50 grams or less of Marijuana including dilutants, 3 counts of Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs, Tampering with evidence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All listed charges were placed on a warrant. Furino was found to be in possession of $1,100.00, which was believed to be proceeds of drug distribution. Furino was also issued to motor vehicle summons for Driving Under the Influence and Possession of CDS within an motor vehicle.

Furino was committed to the Hudson County Jail.

 

Defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
