Ravi Bhalla and Rob Menendez Jr

Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla today officially announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the United States House of Representatives in 8th Congressional District, the seat currently held by freshman Congressman Rob Menendez.  Menendez, who is seeking re-election, has the endorsement of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, all of the other Mayors in Hudson County, and Hudson County Executive-elect Craig Guy.

Mayor Bhalla stated, “We are at a pivotal moment in our nation, facing rising sea levels, rising inequality and rising hatred.  For Congress to rise to the challenge, we need new voices and new leadership—leadership that is focused on making real progress on solving problems and ensuring that all New Jerseyans and Americans no matter their skin color, ethnicity, gender, whom they choose to love, or where they started in life can still realize the American Dream.”

Bhalla made his announcement on You Tube.

Mayor Bhalla continued, “As our Congressman, I will fight to make healthcare a right for everyone, take on climate change, protect a woman’s right to choose, battle back against hatred, and build an economy that works for all.”

Bhalla was elected Mayor of Hoboken in 2017 and has been re-elected once.  An attorney, prior to being elected Mayor, Bhalla served as a Councilman since 2010.
