Hoboken Police Arrest 2 From Plainfield For January 15th Robbery

The Hoboken Police Department has announced the arrests of two suspects from Plainfield for a robbery which occurred at 12th to 13th and Bloomfield Streets in Hoboken on Wednesday, January 15 at 9:06 pm.  According to Detective/Lieutenant Danilo Cabrera, 19-year old Malachi Belton and 20-year old Ajarae Clarke were apprehended at 200 East 4th Street in Plainfield at 9:08 pm and 1:54 pm respectively on January 23.

Each has been charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and endangering and injuring a victim.

On the evening of January 15, Hoboken Police responded to the area in question on a report of a robbery.  Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a female bleeding from her head.  They learned there were two males who committed the robbery, approaching the victim from behind and using some type of pepper spray on her.

After the victim was sprayed, one suspect forcefully grabbed the woman’s back pack while the second actor stood by as a lookout.  The two then fled southward from the area.

The female was taken to Hoboken University Medical Center, where she was treated and released the same evening.

A police investigation learned that the two suspects jumped into a white Nissan Sentra which was parked with the engine running at the corner of 12th and Garden Streets.  A third actor was waiting for them in the car, which drove away.

After an extensive investigation, Hoboken Police were able to track down Ajarae Clarke on January 23 in Plainfield.  She was placed in the Hudson County Jail on an arrest warrant.  Plainfield Police arrested Malachi Belton at the request of the Hoboken Police.  He was also transported to the Hudson County Jail on an arrest warrant.

All suspects remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
