Hoboken Police Blotter: Passaic Man with Suspended License Arrested for Driving while Intoxicated

Arrestee: Mauricio Tshikuya 24 y/o Male from Passaic, NJ

Arrest Date and Time: 09/14/20 at about 1:57 AM

Arrest Location: 825 Washington Street Hoboken, NJ 07030

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated, Driving while suspended, Leaving the scene of an Accident, Reckless Driving, Failure to Produce Registration Card and Insurance Card

Officers Involved: P.O. Christopher Barral and P.O. Bianca Arroyo

Incident Detail: On September 14, 2020, at about 1:45 AM, Officer Christopher Barral was patrolling in the area of 710 Washington Street when he received a message from his automated license plate reader (ALPR) alerting him of a suspended vehicle. Officer Barral was alerted to a 2017 white Hyundai with New Jersey registration. As a result, Officer Barrel conducted a u-turn and located the vehicle. Officer Barral observed that the vehicle was being parked into an angle spot. As the vehicle was being backed in, Officer Barral heard the vehicle in question strike a parked vehicle. The operator then exited the vehicle and a short time later re-entered. He then pulled out of the parking spot and drove away. Officer Barral caught up with the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of 825 Washington Street. The operator was identified as Mauricio Tshikuya 24 y/o Male from Passaic, NJ. The following officers responded as back up: Lieutenant Michael Costello, Sergeant Robert Roman, Officer Bianca Arroyo, Officer Teddy Santiago, and Officer Frank Lombardo. After speaking to the operator, Officer Barral believed the operator was intoxicated and therefore requested that Officer Bianca Arroyo conduct a field sobriety test. Officer Arroyo concluded that Tshikuya was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely and therefore was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Tshikuya was transported to headquarters for processing and provided a breath sample. Tshikuya was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving while License suspended, Driving While registration Suspended, Leaving the scene of an Accident, Reckless Driving, Failure to Produce Registration Card and Insurance Card. Tshikuya was released to a responsible party.
