The Hoboken Green Fair is returning to the Mile Square City on Saturday, October 4th and vendors are encouraged to sign up now for the event, which will take place in Church Square Park from 11 am until 3 pm.

The Hoboken Green Team has also announced that applications for the Green Business Recognition Program are available.

A city press release states, “The Hoboken Green Fair aims to introduce sustainable lifestyle choices to the community, raise awareness about environmental issues, and show how consumers can reduce their environmental impact. The event will focus on eco-friendly products and services, energy and water conservation, and strategies for decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. Local vendors, nonprofit organizations, and green businesses, will offer information, goods, and services that support a more sustainable future.”
Mayor Ravi Bhalla is thrilled that this annual event is once again on the docket, saying, “This event is an opportunity for our community to come together and learn how simple changes can lead to a more sustainable lifestyle.  The Hoboken Green Fair not only showcases businesses and organizations dedicated to environmental responsibility but also empowers residents to take climate action seriously so that we can ensure our city’s greener future for generations to come.”
Vendors interested in participating in the Green Fair are encouraged to apply online athttps://seam.ly/mFWhiytQ. The deadline to apply is September 3rd.  The event will provide vendors with a platform for sharing environmentally conscious products and practices with the Hoboken community.
The Hoboken Green Team is also accepting applications for the Hoboken Green Business Recognition Program. This program honors local businesses that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability through actions such as reducing waste, recycling hard-to-recycle items, using energy-efficient lighting, purchasing in bulk to minimize packaging, and participating in environmental causes. Businesses that take part in the program help build a citywide culture of sustainability and community responsibility.  Recognized Hoboken Green Businesses will receive a Green Business decal for display at their storefront, a digital version for online use, and free vendor space at the Hoboken Green Fair, and advertised on the City’s website.
The Mayor added, “The Hoboken Green Team understands that our local businesses play a critical role in building a greener, healthier city.  Through this program, we aim to create a thriving network of environmentally conscious businesses that inspire both customers and the community.”
Businesses interested in applying for Green Business recognition can do so online at https://seam.ly/VxVAntyR by September 5th.
The Hoboken Green Team is a volunteer-led group.  It continues to advise the City on sustainability efforts, organize public outreach, and promote eco-friendly practices throughout Hoboken. For those interested in joining the Hoboken Green Team, contact Katie Smith, at ksmith@hobokennj.gov.
In April 2019, Mayor Bhalla initiated Hoboken’s Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Hoboken’s Climate Action Plan calls for Hoboken to become carbon neutral by 2050 and net-zero energy by 2030.

Climate Action Plan initiatives have included the expansion of Hoboken’s residential composting drop-off program, the launch of the textile recycling program, energy-efficient upgrades in municipal buildings, the ongoing electrification of the municipal fleet, the community solar program, and more.
