Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Jersey City Shooting

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

According to Prosecutor Wayne Mello, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired on Orient Avenue near MLK Jr. Drive. Responding officers located an injured male – later identified as 38=year old Jenardo Tejada of Jersey City – with apparent gunshot wound(s). He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. The Cause and Manner of Death are pending with the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

During the response, a second victim, a 45-year-old male from Jersey City, was located on Jackson Square with an apparent gunshot wound.

This matter is actively being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
