Two freshmen at the Hudson County Schools of Technology’s High Tech High School have designed a project to study the habits of bees at their Secaucus school. Their work has advanced all the way to the national finals of a US Army, STEM-based competition known as eCYBERMISSION.
Romayssae Saidi and Ambika Rao spent two months designing their project to monitor the activities of their high school’s beehives.
The project, known as “Busy Bees,” took first place in the ninth grade category at both the state and northeast regional competitions, with both students having to present their project and its findings to judges via a Zoom judging.
For their efforts, Roma and Ambika have already won $3,000 in US Savings Bonds apiece. On June 27, they will represent High Tech High School in the national finals competition being held in Washington, D.C.
An additional $6,000 apiece in savings bonds is on the line for first place in the ninth grade category.
