Hudson County Commission Chairman Anthony Vainieri will officially resign his District 8 seat following this Thursday’s Commission meeting in Jersey City. Vainieri, who is running on North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco’s re-election ticket in this coming May’s Commission election, told Hudson TV on the telephone this morning he will be resigning from the County position.
“Due to the time devoted to our municipal election, it’s extremely difficult to continue to concentrate on important issues going on in the county,” Vainieri said. Vainieri also stated that it’s not fair to the people that he represents to be absent at meetings due to campaigning for another office.
Vainieri added that he only had four County Commission meetings left prior to the North Bergen election, so he felt he would give the candidate he’s backing a jump start on serving as commissioner.
As Hudson County Democratic Organization Chairman, Vainieri has to call a special county committee meeting in District 8 to fill the unexpired term that ends December 31, 2023. He will be backing Robert Baselice, North Bergen’s Parking Authority Executive Director, for the Commission seat.
