The largest Police Leadership Camp ever in West New York learned all about the Hudson County Special Weapons and Tactics, or SWAT team, on Wednesday at School Number 3.
More than 100 kids, most of whom are aged eleven, applied for the camp. Approximately 80 made the cut and are spending time learning all about law enforcement careers. In addition to the SWAT team, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office is spending time discussing what a specific career in public safety encompasses.
The camp began on August 3rd. It will conclude on August 12th.
During Wednesday’s SWAT team visit, the campers got to explore the vehicle used by the police. They saw all of the equipment the SWAT officers use and they witnessed a mock, SWAT team raid.
Every police department in Hudson County provides officers to the SWAT unit on a rotating basis for a week at a time, with officers on call for crisis situations.
This is the third consecutive summer the West New York Police Department is holding the Police Leadership Camp.
