Residents will go to the polls in three Hudson County municipalities today to elect school board trustees, but don’t expect any drama. What you can expect is a low turnout at the ballot box.
The towns involved in today’s election are North Bergen, Weehawken and West New York. The reason for the lack of drama and low anticipated turnout is simple. There are three candidates running in each municipality for three board seats. No opposition generally means lack of interest among the voting public.
Nevertheless, here are the candidates running in each town:
In North Bergen:
- Sai Rao, the current Board President
- Trustee Patricia Bartoli
- Trustee Luis Rabelo
In Weehawken:
- Jennifer Martin-Melgarejo
- Trustee Ildefonso Acosta
- Trustee Marissa Dennis
In West New York:
- Jonathan Castenada, the current Board President
- Trustee Ana Sanchez
- Trustee Douglas Velasquez
The polls in each municipality open at 2 pm and close at 8 pm.
