After spending more than seven years in elected office, Jersey City’s Ward B Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey announced this week that she is stepping down to become the new, Executive Director of the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation.

Prinz-Arey was first elected in 2017.

In a statement, Prinz-Arey said, “It has truly been the honor of my life to serve as your councilperson.  It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that I will be stepping down as the Ward B Councilperson and will continue my work for Jersey City with the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) as their Executive Director.”

Prinz-Arey said she was proud to bring stability to the ward, located on the city’s west side.   The Councilwoman said her goal was “to bring resources, stability, and consistent leadership” to the ward, which had seen multiple changes in council representation over the years prior to her election.  “I was the fourth councilperson elected to the seat in four years and the first since 2005 to complete a full term and run for re-election.”

The Councilwoman says she will continue to be involved in city efforts to promote economic growth.  “I look forward to this new opportunity to support our business and drive economic growth and opportunity.  Together, we will support businesses of all sizes — for-profit and nonprofit — and leverage UEZ funding to drive economic development across all parts of the city.”

The Jersey City Council and the State of New Jersey recently approved a five-year economic development plan which will be implemented by the EDC.

With a few months remaining in her term, Prinz-Arey says she plans to be fully engaged and committed to working with whoever assumes the Council seat, “ensuring a smooth transition and a strong foundation for future success.”

  1. This means that whoever becomes next Mayor of Jersey City will keep her on this position? Or the residents of Jersey City will get the opportunity to get new staff to run the city departments? ???.
