At approximately 4:41 p.m., a Jersey City Police Officer reported striking a pedestrian who was jogging in the area of Jersey Avenue and Aetna Street while responding to a call. The victim, a 44-year-old Jersey City man, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for a serious, but not life threatening injury to a lower extremity.

A preliminary investigation completed on Wednesday, February 9 by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit determined the patrol car, a Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling south on Jersey Avenue with lights and sirens activated when the victim was struck.

The vehicle was occupied by the driver and one additional Jersey City Police Officer. The investigation is ongoing by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit.
