Job Fair Addresses Critical Shortage Of School Bus Drivers In Hudson County

The Hudson County Schools of Technology and the North Bergen Board of Education held the first of two, job fairs today in the North Bergen High School cafeteria, as the District, and the County as a whole, are in need of school bus drivers for the ’23-’24 academic year.  A second job fair for school bus drivers will be held on Saturday, also in the North Bergen High School cafeteria.  According to Hudson County Schools of Technology Assistant Business Administrator and Transportation Supervisor John Shinnick, who spoke with Hudson TV reporter Jeff Henig, training is provided by HCST in order for applicants to obtain a commercial driver’s license.

While the positions are part time, and include bus aides as well as drivers, the salary is competitive with benefits ultimately provided.  There is also an opportunity to earn overtime pay.

The entire training process takes around six months to complete.  If an applicant is hired, they could wind up working in any of Hudson County’s school districts.  If interested, the second job fair will take place this Saturday, January 21st between 11 am and 2 pm in the North Bergen High School cafeteria.
