Governor Phil Murphy has announced that due to the onset of the second wave of the coronavirus, re-openings of businesses and the expansion of indoor dining have been put on hold in New Jersey.  The Governor has said, “We are in a holding pattern. I think it would be irresponsible to do otherwise.”

For the first time in a five month period, the state reported on Thursday twelve consecutive days of 1,000 or more, new, daily coronavirus cases.

In Hudson County, where the number of COVID-19 cases is on the rise over the past couple of weeks, several municipalities are experiencing the spike, including Hoboken as previously reported, plus Bayonne and Union City.

In Bayonne, Mayor Jimmy Davis and the Office of Emergency Management reported on Thursday the passing of a 59-year old, male resident who tested positive for COVID-19, marking the 79th resident to succumb to the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic.  The city reports that there are currently 96 residents who are COVID positive.

Actualmente hay cuatro residentes de Bayona con COVID-19 ingresados en el Centro Médico de Bayona.

In Union City, the COVID spike has been rapid in recent days, with 206, new reported cases during the past week.  As of Thursday, the latest totals for Union City show 222 deaths from the virus, with 4,097 coronavirus cases since the onset of the pandemic.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Union City Police Department and City Hall have announced that all, city-sponsored Halloween activities have been cancelled.  Officials ask residents to abide by the wishes of residents and businesses who decide not to take part in trick-or-treating activities by children.

In the latest numbers released by the New Jersey Department of Health, Hudson County has the third highest total of confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide…23,357.  Of that figure, 1,373 people have passed away.
