Chairman Currie Pledges to Continue Working to Build the Party
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie and Vice Chair Peg Schaffer were officially elected to a new term leading the party forward today by members of the Democratic State Committee. Members of the party’s Executive Board were also re-elected, including Secretary Janice Kovach and Treasurer Kelly Stewart Maer. The new terms for all party leaders will run for the next 18 months, until June of 2021.
“I’m ecstatic and honored to have the opportunity to continue leading our Democratic Party, especially now as we enter the crucial 2020 presidential election cycle,” said Chairman Currie. “I would like to thank Governor Phil Murphy for his steadfast support, as well as the many Democratic leaders from throughout the state who have stood strong with us. I especially would like to thank the members of the Democratic State Committee for their vote of confidence in our leadership team as we embark on this critically important campaign to defeat Donald Trump.”
The DSC meeting was held at the East Brunswick Hilton and was attended by Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, and many other party leaders.
“Chairman Currie, Vice Chair Schaffer, and their entire team have done a tremendous job continually building our Democratic Party and helping us compete in each and every county and at every level of government,” said Governor Murphy. “I congratulate John and Peg and look forward to working closely with them and all other Democratic leaders to invest in our party, beat Donald Trump, re-elect our Democratic congressional delegation, and continue to make the NJDSC stronger than ever before.”
“Our Democratic Party has never been in a stronger position and our entire team is ready to work together with county and local leaders, grassroots advocates and more to continue electing more Democrats at every level of government,” said Vice Chair Schaffer. “I want to thank Governor Murphy and the members of the Democratic State Committee for their commitment to unity and keeping our party on the right path as we move into the crucial 2020 election year.”
