Major Drug Bust in Hoboken Yields Over 6 Ounces of Cocaine

In a significant victory against drug trafficking, a narcotics task force in Hoboken executed a successful operation on June 29, 2023, resulting in the recovery of more than 6 ounces of cocaine. The substantial seizure dealt a blow to the illegal drug trade in the area, highlighting the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat narcotics-related crimes.

Members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force arrested 41-year old Gustavo Santos of Hoboken, and recovered more than 6 ounces of cocaine with a street value of approximately $10,000 following a months-long investigation.

Santos sold cocaine to an undercover police officer on multiple dates during the investigation in an aggregate amount of more than 6 ounces. He was arrested without incident on June 29 at the intersection of Newark Street and Washington Avenue in Hoboken and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.  Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, the Hoboken Police Department and the Secaucus Police Department Canine Unit with the arrest and investigation.

Santos is charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine)to an undercover police officer, a crime of the first degree; four counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine to an undercover police officer within 500 Feet of public property, crimes of the second degree; three counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine to an undercover police officer, crimes of the second degree; possession with the intent to distribute cocaine to an undercover police officer, a crime of the third degree; and two counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine to an undercover police officer within 1,000 Feet of a school, crimes of the third degree. He was also charged with being a fugitive from justice from New York City.

The recovery of such a significant quantity of cocaine underscores the magnitude of the operation and its potential to disrupt the drug supply chain within the region. This successful intervention will undoubtedly contribute to curbing the distribution and availability of illicit drugs, ultimately safeguarding the community from the devastating consequences of substance abuse.

The narcotics task force remains vigilant in its efforts to identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks, sending a clear message that the distribution of illegal substances will not be tolerated within the Hoboken community. This operation serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies are actively working to safeguard the well-being and security of the public, taking decisive action to combat the threat posed by narcotics and the criminal organizations involved in their trade.

Prosecutor Suarez reminds the public that these charges against Santos are merely accusations and he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
