Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that on Friday, February 16, 2024, a jury convicted Ishmeal Coleman, 46, of all charges against him for the murder of Takeela Wilson, 38, in Jersey City on August 12, 2018.

Coleman was found guilty of Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. The verdict was delivered before the Honorable John A. Young, J.S.C., following a multi-week trial. Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Najma Rana represented the State in this matter.

On August 12, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of an injured female at 391 Forrest Street. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive victim, later identified as Takeela Wilson, with a stab wound to the torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:35 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Stab Wound of the Chest and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.

Sentencing for Coleman is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2024.
