Man Convicted of Murder in 2018 Jersey City Homicide

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced this morning that a jury has convicted a man on all counts for an August, 2018 homicide committed in Jersey City.

46-year old Ishmeal Coleman was convicted on Friday, February 16, 2024 of all charges against him for the death of 38-year old, Jersey City resident Takeela Wilson, in Jersey City on August 12, 2018.

Prosecutor Suarez says Coleman was found guilty of murder, a crime of the first degree; unlawful possession of a weapon, a crime of the fourth degree; and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a crime of the third degree.  The verdict was announced following a multi-week trial before the Honorable John A. Young, J.S.C.

A press release from Prosecutor Suarez’s office states, “On August 12, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of an injured female at 391 Forrest Street. Upon arrival, responding officers located an unresponsive victim – later identified as Takeela Wilson, of Jersey City – with an apparent stab wound to the torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:35 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Stab Wound of the Chest and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.”

Coleman’s sentencing is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2024.
