For the third time in less than a week, shots rang out in a Jersey City neighborhood late on Friday morning. According to city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, police responded to the sound of gunfire at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Union Street, near the Salem Lafayette Senior Apartment complex, which is located at 94 Union Street.
According to Wallace-Scalcione, the incident took place at approximately 11:30. No injuries were reported and police have arrested one person who was in possession of a gun and allegedly was involved in the shooting. The name of that suspect has not been released by the Jersey City Police Department.
Police reportedly recovered 18 shell casings at the scene.
Friday’s shooting follows a Monday evening incident which saw the South District police station on 191 Bergen Avenue, as well as the Academy 1 Middle School located next door, struck by gunfire. Wallace-Scalcione says police responded to that incident at 5:12 pm. Police are continuing their investigation, No injuries were reported.
Monday’s shooting came two days after four people suffered gunshot wounds during a Saturday night incident that happened near Cator and Rose Avenues around 9:30. The victims were all treated at the Jersey City Medical Center. None of the injuries were considered life threatening. A Jersey City police investigation into last Saturday’s shooting is continuing.
