Following the resignation of North Bergen Housing Authority Executive Director Gerald Sanzari two weeks ago, the Authority has announced the interim appointment of former township Commissioner and current Assemblyman Julio Marenco (D-District 33) to the position. Interim Executive Director Marenco will lead the organization during this transition while the NBHA Board of Commissioners conducts a search for a permanent Executive Director.
A text message sent by Hudson TV to Sanzari seeking comment on his resignation was not returned. Hudson County View previously reported that Sanzari resigned his position three days after a lawsuit was filed in Hudson County Superior Court on September 3, 2024 by a former NBHA employee alleging the NBHA had exceeded its overtime payments for the second half of the fiscal year.
HCV also reported that NBHA spokesperson Nick Bond told them Sanzari resigned the Executive Director position “due to personal health reasons,” not pending legal action.
Interim Executive Director Marenco stated, “I am honored to step into this important role leading the award-winning North Bergen Housing Authority, and I thank the NBHA Board of Commissioners for their trust and confidence in me. I look forward to working closely with the dedicated staff at the NBHA and our community partners to ensure we continue to meet the needs of the residents we serve and to build on the successes that have been achieved over the last several years in providing safe, clean and affordable housing for our community.”
Andrew Becker, the Chairman of the NBHA Board of Commissioners, added, “We are thrilled to have Julio Marenco lead our organization during this interim period,” said Andrew Becker, Chair of the NBHA Board of Commissioners. “With his extensive experience and deep understanding of North Bergen and the needs of its community, we are confident in his ability to provide the leadership we need.”
The North Bergen Housing Authority will iw conduct a full search for a new, permanent Executive Director.
