The State of New Jersey set a record on Saturday, as the first day of early voting got underway ahead of November’s general election. According to the New Jersey Division of Elections, 135,000 people cast in-person ballots at early voting locations across the Garden State.
Additionally, more than 599,000 people have sent back their mail-in ballots as of Saturday. With a huge voter turnout expected for this Presidential election, anything to reduce the wait time at the polls on Tuesday, November 5th is probably a good thing.
Union City welcomed United States Senate candidate, Democratic Congressman Andy Kim, to the city during Saturday’s early voting. Kim is facing off against Republican challenger Curtis Bashaw, as the two seek to replace longtime Senator Robert Menendez, who faces sentencing tomorrow on corruption charges.
The ballot also has various municipal council and school races in Hudson County, as well as a Hoboken rent control referendum.
The 9-day, in-person, early voting period runs through Sunday, November 3rd. “This new option allows registered voters to cast their ballot in person, using a voting machine, during the designated voting period prior to Election Day,” the state said. “You can now choose to vote, in person, when it’s most convenient for your schedule.”
The polls will be open on weekdays and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sunday, they’ll be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Hudson County has 27 Early In-Person Voting Locations. Registered Hudson County Voters can vote at ANY Early Voting location, countywide, during this period.
