A report by NJ Advance Media says 49 New Jersey residents who were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 have died from the virus during the month of July. All of the deaths have occurred since July 12.
Earlier today, New Jersey Department of Health spokeswoman Donna Leusner told NJ Advance Media that over half of the people who died had at least one, underlying medical condition.
The nj.com article says all of those individuals were over the age of 50; 30 were over 80; 12 were between 65 and 79; and six were between 50 and 64.
The deaths account for about one in 100,000 fully vaccinated residents. According to NJ Communicable Disease Service Medical Director Ed Lifshitz, that means that vaccines are about 99.999 percent effective in preventing COVID-related deaths. Chief White House Medical Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said that over 99 percent of the people who died of COVID-19 last month in the United States were not vaccinated.
