The Hoboken City Council this week officially changed the residency requirement for someone wishing to apply to become a Hoboken Police Officer. While residents will still get the first crack at police openings, out of town residents may now apply.
The City Council amended the municipal residency requirement ordinance at its meeting on April 3rd.
The amended law now says Hoboken residents will receive first preference, with Hudson County residents getting second preference and New Jersey residents third preference. Everybody else will be considered last.
The revised ordinance passed unanimously, with First Ward Councilman Mike DeFusco absent.
The Hoboken Po.ice force reportedly is 17 officers shy of its Table of Authority at the present time.
