NORTH BERGEN — Police and the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team responded Monday afternoon, Oct. 19, to an incident in which a man had barricaded himself inside an unoccupied residence, a spokesman for the Township of North Bergen told Hudson TV.
Hudson TV was at the scene near 62nd Street and Durham Avenue on Monday afternoon, where a SWAT team and personnel from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office were present.
“Police responded to an isolated incident involving an individual who has barricaded himself inside an unoccupied residence. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the general public,” Nick Bond, a spokesman for the Township, said in an email to Hudson TV at 5:41 p.m.
Bond said the SWAT team “was called in accordance with updated law enforcement protocols; however, its presence should not be interpreted as an indication of heightened danger to the community.”
A shelter-in-place order was issued “out of an abundance of caution while officers worked to resolve the situation safely,” Bond said.
The Township did not say whether the standoff had ended, or whether anyone was arrested or injured. It also did not identify the man or say whether the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.
Asked by Hudson TV for details, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said North Bergen is leading the matter and referred all questions to the Township. Hudson TV found no newer public statement on the North Bergen Police Department’s website, the Township’s website or the official X accounts of the police department and Prosecutor’s Office as of 5:45 p.m. This story will be updated if officials release more information.
