North Bergen Housing Authority Receives Another HUD Grant

This week the North Bergen Housing Authority (NBHA) learned it has been awarded $152,034 by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to continue offering rental assistance through the Housing Choice Vouchers and Mainstream programs.  Mainstream vouchers assist non-elderly persons with disabilities who live in Section 8 housing.

“This grant will allow us to continue serving the North Bergen residents who need us most, by providing them with safe and affordable housing. Thank you to HUD for recognizing the needs that exist in North Bergen and stepping up to the plate as a valuable partner in this endeavor,” said Gerald Sanzari, Executive Director of the NBHA. “Thank you to our incredible staff who work hard everyday to make this a premier housing authority worthy of recognition, as well as HUD for providing this additional funding for our most essential programs.”

This is the fifth grant the NBHA has received from HUD since November 2022, totaling more than a million dollars in funding and demonstrating the Authority’s commitment to persons in need in the community. The NBHA is also still awaiting feedback on additional grant applications, which they hope to receive shortly.

The NBHA provides comfortable and affordable housing in a safe, stable and secure living environment for low-income, senior, or disabled residents. The NBHA aligns its philosophy with that of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all and to build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination. The Township of North Bergen Housing Authority (NBHA) serves a largely Latino/minority community and of the 986 public housing units they reserve 811 units for elderly and/or disabled persons.

Established in 1965, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is one of the executive departments of the U.S. federal government. It administers federal housing and urban development laws. The Department also works to ensure fair and equal housing opportunities for all.
