North Bergen Free Public Library Director Sai Rao is thrilled to announce that the library has been re-awarded $200,000 by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.  The funding will be used to enhance the Community Library Adult Literacy and Career Pathway Program.  Rao says the funding will enable the library to broaden its reach and provide vital resources and support to individuals seeking to improve their literacy skills and embark on rewarding career paths. This will be the third year that the library has received the grant.

“This grant is a tremendous boost for our community and a testament to the invaluable services provided by the North Bergen Public Library,” said Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “With this funding, our library can further its mission of fostering lifelong learning and equitable opportunities. The expansion of adult literacy and career pathway programs will provide our residents with the necessary tools to succeed, enhancing their employability and contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of our city.”

The library will utilize the funding to sponsor a minimum of 250 students over the course of 3 semesters, ending in April 2024. Qualifying students will receive certificates at the end of the program with opportunities for state certification and employment counseling. Training opportunities are open to all New Jersey residents ages 18 and up, with preference being given to lower-income or unemployed students.

The library will be starting registration for classes within the next few weeks.
