North Bergen Man Arrested Following Leonia Hit-And-Run That Seriously Injured Female Pedestrian

A hit-and-run crash in Leonia has a North Bergen man in hot water.  Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella has announced the arrest of 34-year-old Osmary Jimenez-Luna on charges stemming from a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian.  According to Prosecutor Musella, the arrest was made after an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Leonia Police Department, under the direction of Chief Scott Tamagny.

A press release from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office states, “On Thursday, July 10, 2025, at approximately 4:35 a.m., the Leonia Police Department responded to Grand Avenue, near the intersection with Ames Avenue, after an unconscious pedestrian was found along the side of the road. Upon arrival, officers determined that the pedestrian had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The adult female pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center with critical injuries. The Leonia Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit, along with accident investigators from the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force, responded to the scene and a joint investigation was initiated.”

Musella says it was determined by detectives that the 77-year-old female pedestrian was attempting to cross Grand Avenue, near the intersection with Ames Avenue, when she was struck by a red vehicle that fled the scene.  As of this morning, the victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Detectives were able to identify and locate the vehicle, a red 2012 Toyota Sienna. The investigation further revealed that Jimenez-Luna was the driver.

Jimenez-Luna was arrested yesterday and charged with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury; fourth-degree endangering an injured victim; and several related motor vehicle offenses.   He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

At the present time, the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Prosecutor Musella thanked the Elizabeth, Leonia, and North Bergen Police Departments, as well as the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation. In addition, Prosecutor Musella thanked the Ridgefield and Norwood Police Departments, which both participate in the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force.
