On Monday, September 29, 2025, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office arrested 35-year old Axel Fuentes-Zavala of North Bergen in connection to a nonfatal stabbing of a woman that occurred in Union City.
According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, Fuentes-Zavala is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, a knife, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and harassment. He was arrested at his residence and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first court appearance.
According to a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office, “On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Union City Police Department was notified of a stabbing in the area of 30th Street and Jeanette Street. The female victim reported she was approached by an unknown male who stabbed her in the back multiple times after a brief interaction. The victim suffered injuries that are not considered life threatening. During the course of the investigation, the defendant was identified as an individual wanted in connection with a similar crime that occurred in North Bergen and was arrested on an open warrant relating to that matter.
The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
