Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella has announced the arrest of 29-year-old, North Bergen resident Guy R. McCann, II on charges of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief. According to Musella the arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the River Vale Police Department.
A press release from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office states that, “On Friday, January 17, 2025, the River Vale Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged incident of sexual assault that occurred in the past. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the River Vale Police Department revealed that a stranger contacted a child under the age of 16 on Snapchat, a popular social media platform, and engaged in conversation. Subsequently, the unknown male made arrangements to meet the child in River Vale, NJ, and on Thursday, January 16, 2025, sexually assaulted the child.”
Musella says as the investigation continued, detectives determined that the stranger continued to contact the child and planned another meeting in order to engage in sexual activity. Detectives determined that McCann, II was the adult communicating with the victim. On Tuesday, January 21 McCann, II again traveled to River Vale to meet with the child. Musella says he was taken into custody by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the River Vale Police Department after a brief foot pursuit.
McCann, II was arrested in River Vale. He has been charged with second-degree sexual assault; second-degree attempted sexual assault; two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child; fourth-degree resisting arrest; and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
