North Bergen PBA Endorses Sacco For Re-Election

With the North Bergen municipal election set to take place on Tuesday, May 9th, incumbent Mayor Nicholas Sacco and his Board of Commissioners have picked up the endorsement of the township’s Police Department.  The North Bergen Police Benevolent Association announced their endorsement on social media on Saturday.

The announcement stated, “Mayor Sacco and his team have consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges faced by our law enforcement officers and a genuine commitment to creating a safer environment for our residents.  That is why the North Bergen Police Benevolent Association (NBPBA), Locals 18 and 18A have decided to endorse Mayor Sacco and his team in this upcoming election.”

Mayor Sacco is seeking a ninth term in office, while his opponent Larry Wainstein is looking to make his third run at political office a charm.  Sacco has the support of the Hudson County Democratic Organization.

Sacco’s ticket consists of two, new running mates, although they are not new to the political arena by any means.  With Julio Marenco seeking a State Assembly Seat in the 33rd District, and with longtime Commissioner Frank Gargiulo retiring, former Hudson County Commission (previously Freeholder) President Anthony Vainieri and Claudia Rodriguez, a former aide to Sacco in the State Senate and Board of Education Trustee, have joined the ticket, seeking a North Bergen Commission seat.  Commissioners Hugo Cabrera and Alan Pascual are running for re-election with the Mayor.

Meanwhile, Larry Wainstein, who owns numerous laundromats and is a property landlord and developer, is joined by running mates Lucy Rodriguez, a social worker with the North Hudson Community Action Corporation, retired truck driver Tony Parrales, mechanical engineer Alcides Siri and small business owner Franklin Fabre.

Sacco defeated Wainstein in the 2015 and 2019 Commission elections by margins of roughly 2 to 1.
