The North Bergen Police Department handled more than 2,500 calls during the past week. Here’s a breakdown of what happened during the final, full week of 2019 from December 23rd to December 29th:

The various types of charges filed for offenses during the week included receiving a stolen vehicle; burglary to a vehicle; criminal mischief; shoplifting; distribution of controlled dangerous substances; simple assault domestic violence and failure to appear in court.
As rush hour was underway, the North Bergen Police, as well as the Union City Police, responded to a tractor trailer incident on Monday morning, December 30th at the corner of Kennedy Blvd. and 37th Street. An 18-wheeler heading in the southbound direction on Kennedy struck an overhead traffic signal, resulting in downed electrical wires, a utility pole on 37th Street to be pulled down at a 45 degree angle and the complete closure of the county roadway between 36th and 38th Streets.
It should be noted that tractor trailers are not permitted along Kennedy Blvd. The incident took place at approximately 9:15 am.
